Jesus, you are the radiance of the father’s glory.
You are the Son, the appointed heir
through whom all things are made.
You are the one who sustains all things
by your powerful word.
You have purified us from sin,
you are exalted, O Lord,
exalted, O Lord,
to the right hand of God.
(Last time)
Crowned with glory,
crowned with honour,
we worship you.

Tune
-
Jesus, you are the radiance Composer: - Fellingham, David (Dave)
The story behind the hymn
The exalted beginning of the Letter to the Hebrews has (not surprisingly) prompted much writing and singing; eg 332 and 546, not to mention 312 immediately following. Like other items included in the song category, David Fellingham’s composition can be traced from Spring Harvest to the MP and Songs and Hymns of Fellowship series, both 1987. It was written in 1985, together with the tune JESUS, YOU ARE THE RADIANCE. Originally arranged by G Baker, the music here is the David Peacock version taken from the 1988 Let’s Praise.
A look at the author
Fellingham, David (Dave)
b Horsham, Sussex 1945. His Salvationist family settled in Tongham near Aldershot, where he responded to the gospel as a child, finding that faith and music mixed easily. He attended George Abbot Sch for Boys, Guildford, and after a year’s library work trained as a teacher at Sussex Univ, graduating 1968; also ARCM, majoring in the trumpet. He briefly taught music at Newhaven Tideway Sch, and then was Director of Music at Longhill Sch. In 1976 he became a lay pastor in an Anglican Church, and 3 years later joined the leadership team at the Church of Christ the King, Brighton, Sussex. He ministers there primarily as an evangelist but also as crisis-counsellor, outreach organiser and song/music leader. As an author/composer and musician he has had several classical works performed, his music has often featured at annual Spring Harvest events, notably in the 1990s, he leads the singing at many united gatherings within the renewal movement, and he trains others in music and worship. He has 4 compositions in Let’s Praise (1988) and 8 in the 1997 edn of MP. His work has reached wider circles through Mission Praise, and he has ministered in Europe, N America and the Far East. Other interests include video movies, cooking, and sport. His two married sons are also involved in playing Christian music internationally. Nos.242, 244, 311, 479.
