In the darkness of the valley,
when our hearts are filled with fear,
knowing this should give us comfort:
Christ our Lord is standing near.

He will be our powerful helper,
ever-present sovereign guide.
Nothing in this life will tear us
from the safety of his side.

2. God has promised not to leave us
and has made this promise sure;
in the cross of his Son, Jesus,
we find love that will endure.

3. With the blood of our Lord Jesus
God removed our shame and sin;
overturned the power of Satan,
conquered death, new life to win.

4. If the living God is for us,
and his Son came from above;
if his Spirit dwells within us,
who shall keep us from his love?

5. In the darkness of the valley
stands one greater than our fears:
crucified and risen Saviour—
ever-faithful through the years.
