Behold his love!
I stand amazed and marvel
at the God of grace;
that the Alpha and Omega,
the Beginning and the End,
the Creator of the universe
on whom all life depends,
should be clothed in frail humanity
and suffer in my place.
Behold his love
and worship him, the God of grace.

Tune

The story behind the hymn

Following the grandeur of Watts, a sequence of 5 shorter items sounds a different note until hymns 270 and following. Geoff Baker’s words and music (the tune also BEHOLD HIS LOVE) were published in 1995. Their phrases echo several NT texts, and contain much theology in a very brief span. As with the splendour of the previous item, the simplicity of this one requires an individual 1st-person commitment if it is to be sung with integrity. It appears here for the first time in a full hymn-book, having previously been included in Praise! Preview, 1998.
