Thomas, David Vaughan
b Ystalyfera, Powys 1873, d S Africa 1934. He studied music under Dr Joseph Parry after moving to Pontardulais, and then at Llandovery Coll and Exeter Coll Oxford (BA, MA, MusD). He was a schoolteacher at Harrow until returning to Wales, and also served as overseas examiner to Trinity Coll of Music, London. He travelled widely, taking every opportunity to make Welsh musical heritage better known. Among his many compositions are songs, part-songs and anthems. No.493.
