b Clapham, Surrey/SW London 1879, d Westminster, London 1943. A younger brother of Martin S (see below), he attended St Paul’s Cathedral Sch; Gonville and Caius Coll Cambridge. From 1902 to 1910 he taught music at Gresham’s Sch, then followed his brother Martin as organist at St Mary’s Primrose Hill, N London. He worked with the BBC for music in schools; co-editor, The Public School Hymn Book, 1919. He composed many songs, choral works, and hymn tunes. Nos.67*, 965*.
