Composer

Thomas Ravenscroft (c1590–1634) was a St Paul’s Cathedral chorister, BMus (Cambridge), and Music Master at Christ’s Hospital. The most notable and influential of his many books was his 1621 compilation, The Whole Booke of Psalmes. Here he composed the harmonies for 48 tunes; a 2nd edn was published in 1633 and this was twice reprinted (1728, 1746). Several tunes and arrangements from the book are still in wide use. No.345(i).
