b Chagford, Devon 1887, d Feniton, nr Ottery St Mary, Devon 1962. St George’s Sch Windsor (chorister at St George’s Chapel), Uppingham Sch (music Scholar), and RCM. Organist at St Mary’s Farnham Royal, Organ Scholar at Keble Coll Oxford 1906–09, Organist of Christ Ch Cathedral 1909–26. He was Precentor and Director of Music at Eton Coll from 1926 until his retirement in 1945, after which he continued to examine for the RCO and give recitals. A composer of songs, organ pieces and a children’s operetta, he co-edited the 1932 Oxford Psalter and the Church Anthem Book 1933. Nos.69B=845, 550, 883.
