König’s Harmonischer Liederschatz (1738)

Composer

The German composer-singer-organist-cellist-editor Johann Balthasar König (1691–1758) published his Harmonischer Lieder Schatz [variously two words, one word, or hyphenated], oder Allgemeines evangelisches Choralbuch in 1738. This comprised 1940 chorale tunes including 290 of his own, and was the fullest of all such 18th-c collections; it has yielded one classic SM tune, as usual slightly modified for later use. This was possibly composed by König himself, since like several others in this collection (some 290) it has not been found in any earlier document. No.806.
