Horner, Egbert Forster
b Greenwich, SE London (Kent) 1864, d Paddington, W London 1928. A pupil of the organist, composer and author Sir J Frederick Bridge, he was organist at St Alphege’s Southwark (1884– 86), St Barnabas’ Tunbridge Wells (1886–90), and chiefly at St John’s Westminster (1890–1919). He served also as examiner and teacher of harmony and counterpoint at Trinity Coll London, and examined at Birmingham and Durham Univs. 7 of his hymn tunes are in the 1904 Methodist Hymn Book, 2 of which survive in its 1933 and 1983 successors.
