b Neuhausen, Germany 1778, d Berlin, Germany 1813. After training in medicine at Wittenburg from 1796 to 1800, he did further study at Jena, Vienna and Trieste. He then worked as a Berlin doctor for the few remaining years of his life. His most celebrated music was composed for Horace’s ode Integer vitae scelerisque purus, from which the tune bearing either the opening two Latin words or the composer’s name is adapted. No.412(ii).
