b St Marylebone (Middx), London 1882, d Glasgow 1974. Robert Gordon’s Coll, Aberdeen; Merchiston Castle Sch, Edinburgh. Member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, worked in shipbuilding until 1928 when he resolved to concentrate on music. Trained at RCM and Jordanhill Teachers’ Training Coll, Glasgow; taught classsinging at Irvine for Ayrshire County Council, retired 1947. Composer of several hymn tunes, 2 cantatas (1938, 1948) and a prelude for strings on his own GLENFINLAS. Nos.143, 520.
