Barff, Frederick John

b 1911, d 1968. Christ’s Coll Cambridge (BA History, MA), Wycliffe Hall Oxford 1934–35. He was ordained (CofE) in 1935; after a curacy in Stowmarket, Suffk, he worked with CSSM from 1938 to 1940. He then became an incumbent in the villages of Layston and Buntingford, Herts (until 1943), Bristol (1943–55) and briefly at Easton, Som, before joining what was then the CMS Ruanda Mission as its Organising Secretary in 1955. Some of his simple settings of Scripture texts feature in CSSM/Scripture Union Choruses, Bk 3 (1939). No.749.
