b Shorwell, Isle of Wight 1840 (not Newport, ’39), d Shanklin, IoW 1919. A cathedral choirboy at Winchester, he then ran a small watchmaking and jewellery business on the island (cf J Antes). He was organist of Sandown Parish Church, 1864–71, then of St Saviour’s Ch, Shanklin, for nearly 30 years and again during the 1914–18 war. He also served the Congregational Ch at Shanklin and occasionally elsewhere. He composed music for several town bands as well as a number of hymn tunes, only one of which has become established.
