5018. Zacchaeus was a very little man

Author: Verse 1 Anon; Verses 2 and 3 Christopher Idle

Zacchaeus was a very little man,
and a very little man was he.
He climbed up into a sycamore tree
for the Saviour he wanted to see.
And when Jesus passed that way
he looked into the tree
and said, “Now Zacchaeus you come down,
for I’m coming to your house for tea”.

2. Zacchaeus went a very little way
and a very little way went he;
and when he welcomed Jesus in,
some changes they would see.
“I’ll split my goods in half”, he said;
“Give one half to the poor;
and I’ll pay back what I’ve cheated anyone—
and I’ll multiply it all by four!”

3. Zacchaeus was a very little man
and a son of Abraham;
and Jesus who can come to us
is called the Son of Man.
He came to look for what was lost
to find and save them too;
and what he did for a very little man
he can do for me and you.
