1208. Holy God, I cry for mercy

Author: Martin E Leckebusch

Holy God, I cry for mercy –
not that I deserve your care,
but, since you are always faithful,
hear my urgent prayer.

2. Once my heart was filled with wonder
at the marvels you had planned;
now my soul is thirsty for you
like a desert land.

3. An assailant now pursues me,
tries to snatch my hope away,
till my crushed and fainting spirit
trembles with dismay.

4. Do not turn your face against me:
life without your love is bleak.
Your deliverance, guidance, refuge—
these, my God, I seek.

5. By your love disarm my foes, LORD;
lead me through this time of strife;
gracious God, I am your servant,
now and all my life.
