First God said, ‘let there be light!’
With the angels let us sing:
made and named the day and night–
praise to our Creator-King!

2. Formed a great expanse on high,
with the angels let us sing:
tamed the waves beneath the sky–
praise to our Creator-King!

3. God created sea and land,
with the angels let us sing:
green things grow by God’s command–
praise to our Creator-King!

4. Sun and moon and every star,
with the angels let us sing:
shine immeasurably far–
praise to our Creator-King!

5. Fishes swarm in all the seas,
with the angels let us sing:
birds hatch out among the trees–
praise to our Creator-King!

6. All earth’s creatures God designed,
with the angels let us sing:
crowned the work with humankind–
praise to our Creator-King!

7. Then most holy and most blessed,
with the angels let us sing:
dawned the Sabbath of God’s rest–
praise to our Creator-King!
