Johann Gottlob Werner (?1777–?1822) was b at Hayn, became organist at Saxony, deputy cantor at Hohenstein and music director of Merseburg where he died. The book he compiled, Choralbuch zu den neuen protestantischen Sächischen Gesangbüchern, was published in Leipzig and contains one indispensable tune, adapted from earlier sources and further amended since.
