(also SUTTER, as in Praise!), b 1911, d 1988. A Belgian professional church musician and leading organist who also taught church music, Gregorian chant, Hymnology and Folksong studies at the Lemmens-instituut te Leuven, Belgium. He visited Carl Orff several times, promoted the use of Orff instruments in primary and secondary schools, including educational broadcasts for 30 years, and in 1958 demonstrated the Orff system in the German pavilion of the ‘World Exposition’ held in Brussels. He published various collections of hymns, eg in Ghent 1940, Antwerp 1962, Bruges 1974 and 1978, and a volume of Passiontide and Easter hymns in Tielt en Bussum (Belgium), 1983; also Song of my Country popular but newly-arranged Flemish folk-songs. His other books included an Introduction to music listening in Flanders and Holland; The Usage of the Song; and Psalms, Hymns and Praise Songs [=Latin chant] of all ages—original titles translated.
