b Chelsea, W London (Middx) 1858, d Brighton, Sussex 1920. Trained at the RAM; he was organist at several churches and conducted the Civil Service Vocal Union. He regularly accompanied the solo singer Sims Reeves, and composed cantatas and anthems as well as hymn tunes. His secular pieces were often sung at the old Crystal Palace, but his best-known work is probably still the cantata Olivet to Calvary. He has no entry in Grove. No.307.
