b Penbryn nr Cardigan, S Wales 1872, d Swansea, S Wales 1914. John’s parents moved to Swansea when he was 2; when his father died 8 years later he left school, and to support the family began work as an errand boy at the Duffryn Steel and Tinplate Works at Morriston. Staying with the firm he became its Commercial Manager involved in considerable travelling. He belonged to the Philadelphia Welsh Baptist Ch, Hafod, and wrote several hymn tunes, one of which has made its mark extensively. No.91A=894.
