b Rohrau, Lower Austria 1737, d Salzburg 1806. Younger brother of FJH qv, and like him an older contemporary and friend of W A Mozart; he became Kapellmeister to the Archbishop of Salzburg, holding the post for over 40 years. Composer of more than 350 church works including oratorios, cantatas, organ music and masses; also 30 symphonies and some operatic works. No.873.
