b Ottawa, Illinois, USA 1925. Born as Annabeth McClelland, daughter of a pastor, she trained at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, specialising in organ, before marrying William Gay, a Congregational minister. They lived at Pleasant Hill, at the heart of a small farming community in W Ohio, and served several congregations of the United Church of Christ in that neighbourhood. They retired to Lincoln, Nebraska. She is a church musician and composer, a member of the American Guild of Organists, represented in N American books including the Psalter Hymnal (Grand Rapids, 1987). No.52=58.
