Organist and choirmaster at Jewin St Welsh Presbyterian Ch London from 1899; Lecturer, Head of Music, then Prof of Music at Univ Coll Cardiff 1903–39. A frequent judge of Eistedfoddau and conductor of Psalmody festivals; edited the musical monthly Y Cerddor 1916–21 and published Moliant Cenedil (‘A Nation’s Praise’), a collection of standard hymn tunes. Composed and arranged much church music (some under the name Edward Arthur) and choral and orchestral works including The Coming of Arthur; chief music ed for the Ch of Scotland’s The Revised Church Hymnary of 1927, and helped edit the music of Llyfr Emynau a Thonau (‘The Book of Hymns and Tunes’) for the Welsh Methodists in 1929.
