1051. Lightning flash and rumbling thunder

Author: Julie Rowbory

Lightning flash and rumbling thunder
from the throne of God on high,
where the creatures and the angels
day and night forever cry:
‘Holy, holy, Lord Almighty,
was and is and is to come!
Praise and honour, power and glory
to the Father and the Son!’

2. Victor now enthroned in heaven,
Judah’s Lion glorified,
bearing scars that purchased nations,
Lamb of God, once crucified.
Praise him with the living creatures:
‘Worthy is the Lamb, once slain,
Saviour of his blood-bought people.
Honour! Glory! Praise! Amen!’

3. Heaven and earth, now recreated,
old is gone, the new has come.
There, the Lord’s new holy city
stands: the bride of Christ the Son.
No more pain and no more crying,
no more death and no more night.
Nations bask there in his splendour:
God the temple, God the light.

4. Nothing shameful or deceitful
finds a welcome in that place.
There God’s children ever serve him,
bear his name and see his face.
Jesus, Alpha and Omega,
Morning Star and David’s Son –
come and claim the bride you purchased.
Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come!
