1202. I choose to set my thoughts

Author: Martin Leckebusch

I choose to set my thoughts the way
the Spirit tells me to:
to let his life within my mind
control me through and through,
control me through and through.

2. I choose to turn my thoughts away
from sin and its desires—
from things which neither honour God
nor do what he requires,
nor do what he requires.

3. I choose to take the Spirit’s gift,
the pathway of release:
for all who let him rule their minds
discover life and peace,
discover life and peace.

4. Lord, may your Spirit give to me
new life in place of old—
by fallen values let my thoughts
no longer be controlled,
no longer be controlled.

5. Praise God—where Christ is named as Lord
his Spirit can be found—
and where the Spirit makes his home,
his life and power abound,
his life and power abound.
